The Introduction of the Online Nursing Degree

The university degree allows nurses to improve the theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the development of the health care sphere. But the majority of nurses, which are interested in the advanced education, do not want to interrupt the current career and to devote several years exceptionally to the studying. For those people there is an appropriate variant – the online education. Nowadays many universities and colleges offer the online degree programs.
There are several levels of the degrees in nursing – from the RN to the master’s degree in nursing. Such programs allow the nurses to combine their current work with the online studying in the university and to study in the convenient time according to the personal schedule. The online studying also saves the money for the transportation to the university and for the accommodation in the university campus.
The peculiarity of the nursing specialization is its applied character. It means that besides the theoretical preparation the nurses have to receive the practical skills and need clinical work during the education. The theoretical part of studying they simply receive with the help of computer: all the books, materials and task the students receive through the e-mail or website postings. The practical work must be done in the nearest hospital and must be conformed to the requirements of the university curriculum of the online degree program. Usually, the nurses receive the practical experience in the same patient care institution, where they worked before the studying. Besides the practical work, some universities require the attendance of the periodical on-campus residency.
The very important thing is the accreditation of the university by the government body or the local authority. The accreditation guarantees the high value of the received diploma on the labour market and the recognition of it by the employers.
